English Composition as a Happening

Charles Deemer's main idea is how he wants to improve the set up of the schooling systems. He feels strongly that the teachers and students should be seen as equals and be able to communicate without any awkward barriers. The common idea of a classroom is the teacher in front of the class behind a podium, lecturing the class on some random topic that they really don't care to hear about and pay attention to. Also, the teacher shouldn't always be the only one teaching the class. Sometimes the students could be teaching other students to show their knowledge on certain topics and just to mix things up a bit. If the students and teachers work as a team more often the learning environment would improve greatly. Another point Deemer made is that students shouldn't just sit back and never give any imput. They need to show that they are actually learning and express what their feelings are about the topic. By everyone working together towards a common goal, schooling will be closer to the way Deemer dreams it to be.

Deemer supports his position with details about how schools are today. He then adds details on how the schools today are doing so many things wrong and includes ways that schools could improve their ways of teaching.
