REVISED--The First Charter of Virginia, 1606

Author: King James and various members of the council.

Audience: Residents living in Virginia and those related to the council.

Tone: Authoritative. Old English vocabulary. Some words were used that are scarcely heard now-a-days. Formal writing that suites the document.

Purpose/Context: The purpose of the Virginia Charter was to tell people of the different regulations and guidelines that were expected to be followed by the people. It mentions the need for good land to start plantations and habitation on and also how people needed to either pay or trade for any merchandise they may have wanted. There was also a petition that would grant people permission to do different things.

Persuasion: (ethos) Emotion is shown when the author uses more describing words to express a particular item or event. Also, when describing some of the rules the author goes into great detail with some information that isn't exactly necessary but it is included to make the piece more persuasive.
(pathos) The authors shows credibility with all the information given by taking the time to explain many things and go further in depth. Character is shown with the older-english vocabulary used by the authors.
(logos) Logic is shown in the document because the authors make everything fit together well. Things just seem logical for example, having to pay for merchandise is normal and therefore logical.
